Audio Devices

CDT supports the following audio device types:

  • Handsets

An actual hardware receiver to answer calls and to hang up.

  • Headsets

A headphone-microphone combination instead of a receiver. You click buttons on the user interface to answer calls and to hang up.

You can also use SIP desk phones. For information about the functions you are able to use in CDT, contact the administrator. Usually only a limited collection of functions is available.

Use a compatible and supported device since other devices may behave unpredictably. For information about the supported devices, contact your administrator.

For information about the device itself and its basic use, see the documentation of the device.

Configuration

The audio devices must be installed and configured correctly. For information about the configuration, see Configuring Audio Settings and contact the administrator.

Different devices behave in different ways when you connect them to your workstation and disconnect them from it. For example, in some situations you must restart your workstation, whereas in other situations you do not even have to log off from the application. If you need to take any actions, the application displays an error message that instructs you what to do.

example:

This example shows how to define the audio settings for a headset.

  1. Go to Tools > Settings > Phone > Audio.

  2. In the Audio Devices section, do the following:

    1. In the Audio field, choose the headset.

Now the incoming audio, how you hear the other party, is sent to the headset.

    2. In the Microphone field, choose the headset.

Now the outgoing audio, how the other party hears you, uses the headset.

    3. To hear the ringing tone of personal and queue calls in your headset, choose the headset in the Ringing Tone field.

To play the ringing tone using your workstation speakers, choose the sound card.

If administrators have not disabled the Ringing Tone setting, you can change the default ringing tone.

    4. Click Apply.

If you want to play other alarms and reminder sounds (such as calendar reminders) through your workstation’s speakers instead of your headset, adjust the audio settings of your workstation.
