Searching for Entries
You must have rights to use the directory functions.
You use this procedure to search for directory entries.
Before executing a search, note the following:
-
Always use a search criterion that is as precise as possible. Otherwise the search is slow and the result may be incorrect.
-
If you leave the search criterion field empty, the search results are a random collection of entries, or all entries in the selected directory if their number is smaller than the search limit. Therefore, we recommend that you use a search criterion in all searches.
-
The search criterion field is not case-sensitive.
-
Depending on the amount of data and the accuracy of the search criteria, the data retrieval may take a while.
-
The search field retains 50 entries you have searched for during the current session and displays them in a popup menu.
-
Communication Desktop (CDT) ignores the following special characters when you include them in the search criterion: Symbol Term ’ single quotation mark ! exclamation point ' apostrophe $ dollar sign % percent sign & ampersand ( ) parenthesis + plus sign - minus sign / forward slash : colon ; semicolon = equal sign ? question mark @ at sign [ ] square brackets \ backslash ^ circumflex accent ` grave accent { } braces | vertical slash > greater than sign < less than sign ~ tilde , comma
- Choose the directory.
-
        Enter the search criteria.
For different search options, see Using Directory Search.
-
Press Enter or choose the Search button.
The search is executed and the results are displayed.
