Introduction

We recommend using 100 Mbps or better fast ethernet. Effects of network quality on signaling and RTP traffic are discussed in sections below.

We also recommend using Quality of Service (QoS) in the network and marking packets accordingly on MRS servers and client workstations. See Installation Guide for more information.

Both wired and wireless networks can be used on workstations, and since SP04 their preference can be configured either on the system level (in System Configurator) or on each client (in Communication Desktop (CDT) or Convergence).

See Compatibility List for server and other hardware equipment requirements.

Network Requirements for RTP

RTP requires constant minimum bandwidth of 87.2 kbps per each call with G.711 codec, and 31.2 kbps per each call with G.729 as full-duplex assuming 20 ms voice packet size is used. If the network variation or outages are such that those minimum requirements are not fulfilled, the voice quality will be deteriorated.
