Linking Media Routing Server (MRS) to Other Modules

Use

MRS is used for the following services:

  • Playing prompts.

  • Recording calls.

  • Network address translation (NAT) on RTP streams.

  • Routing RTP streams through it.

  • Encrypting endpoint of RTP streams.

  • Branching calls to quality management or other systems.

  • Interpreting and producing RFC 2833 DTMF telephony events.

Modules needing MRS services must have proper MRS modules assigned to them. Most MRS services are assigned in System Management > Modules > Media Routing Server. NAT and routing are assigned using Call Switching > Locations. Playing prompts can be assigned both ways.

In view, link the Media Routing Server (MRS) to the modules that need its services.

Note:

If no MRS is linked, the services listed above do not work in the system.

MRS must be linked to the following modules:

  • Call Dispatcher (CD), to play prompts for internal callers.

  • Bridges, that are connected to PSTN trunks.

  • External Terminal Controller (ETC), to play prompts for MTD phones.

Other services require either the Call Dispatcher linking, or MRS allocated via a location.

You can link one MRS module to all the modules that need MRS services, or you can dedicate one or more MRS modules for a certain purpose.

If the system is located on several sites in the world, consider installing MRS on each location.

Procedure

To link modules to a specific MRS module:

  1. Choose the desired module from the list of Available Modules.

  2. Click the > arrow button to move the module to the list of Selected Modules.

If a module has several Media Routing Servers, you can set the priority (that is, in which order they are used) between the module and MRS.

  3. Save your entries.

To break the link between MRS module and other modules:

  1. Choose the desired module from the list of Selected Modules.

  2. Click the < arrow button to move the module to the list of Available Modules.

  3. Save your entries.
